Beware of These Skincare Ingredients

Consumers assume that that all skin care products are beneficial to the skin, especially if the products are costly. Unfortunately, this assumption is not necessarily true. Many skincare products not only fall short of their advertised promises, but can also damage your skin. Their ingredients may clog pores, irritate, dehydrate and stress your skin. While irritation is not always visible, it compromises your skin's healthy appearance and its resilience. It prevents new cell growth and reduces the skin's ability to heal.
Here is a concise list of what you should avoid in skin care products. Think of these ingredients as the equivalent of cholesterol, saturated fat or ephedra in your diet. As a general rule, you should avoid any product that tingles, stings, itches or burns.

Alcohol: We have all heard many times that alcohol is bad for the skin. Unfortunately, it is still used extensively in skin care products. It contributes to dehydration, kills live cells, and alters the skin's delicate biological balance.

Fragrance and coloring: Dermatologists strongly recommend avoiding products with added fragrance or dyes. These additives fail to provide any benefit other than to enhance the product's appearance. However, when absorbed by the skin, fragrances and dyes cause irritation and may produce allergic reactions.

Botanicals: Not all “natural” ingredients are beneficial. Some commonly used plant extracts, such as menthol, peppermint and citrus oils, are powerful substances that are better kept away from your skin.

Bar soap: It is formed by waxy binders and harsh alkaline salts. These ingredients can clog your skin and leave behind harsh chemical residues that dull it or damage it. Liquid cleansers without soap additives are a better alternative.

Fatty acids and vegetable oils: Some fats commonly used as moisturizers form an oily barrier that clogs pores, traps bacteria and prevents the natural shedding of dead cells. Oil-free or light moisturizers are best for all skin types.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptoms

There are two basic types of irritable bowel syndrome. Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea include abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating and frequent, loose or watery stools. To define frequent, you must look at what is normal for the individual. The number of bowel movements that a person has varies greatly. Some people have three movements per day, while others may have only three per week. A change in the frequency of bowel movements that is accompanied by abdominal pain often leads physicians to diagnose irritable bowel syndrome.
Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation also include abdominal pain, discomfort and/or bloating, but the stools are hard or difficult to pass and movements are less frequent than what is normal for the individual. In a few cases, people with irritable bowel syndrome symptoms experience constipation at times and diarrhea at other times. Abdominal pain can be a symptom of a number of other medical conditions and should be evaluated by a physician. If a bowel movement relieves the pain, then the physician may determine that the abdominal pain is associated with symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

The exact causes of irritable bowel syndrome symptoms are unknown, but patients can often determine what triggers the symptoms by keeping a foods and symptoms journal; noting what foods or beverages were consumed before the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome began. Products containing caffeine, alcohol and carbonated beverages may trigger symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, though these products do not cause the condition. Food sensitivities often trigger symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Some people are sensitive to wheat products; others are sensitive to milk products. And still others find that fructose, a simple sugar found in fruit and fruit juices triggers symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. This is why a food and symptoms diary is helpful. By avoiding certain foods, some people are able to keep the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome under control.

Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are more likely to show up in people between the ages of 13 and 40, than in those over 50. Women are more likely to have symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome than are men. This may indicate that irritable bowel syndrome symptoms are related to monthly changes in hormonal levels, but this is not certain. It seems that many people who suffer from symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome also are suffering from stress or other emotional difficulties and because of this stress management or behavior therapies are sometimes recommended. In addition, a recent study showed that hypnotic therapy was effective in controlling irritable bowel syndrome symptoms.

The causes and triggers of irritable bowel syndrome symptoms vary greatly among individuals. Treatment plans vary as well. Some prescription medications and herbal remedies may be helpful over the short term, but dietary and lifestyle changes are typically necessary to keep the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome under control for extended periods of time.

Eliminate Noise To Reduce Stress

Stress is a fact of life that most of us have learned to accept and grown accustomed to enduring in our busy lives. But minimizing noise, an element that often compounds stress, can lead to better concentration, increased productivity and can reduce your overall stress level.
There are many types of audio and visual noise that can cause distractions that break concentration and increase stress. There’s the noise of traffic and conversations when we’re walking down the street, but then there’s the subtle everyday noises of our homes and offices that can easily distract us: doors shutting, the television playing, conversations in the next cube, phones ringing, fingers tapping on the keyboard. A study conducted by Cornell University found that office workers exposed to constant noise showed physiological signs of stress, even though they did not report feeling stressed at all. Not only does the noise distract you, but it can be stressing you and you don’t even realize it.

While we can’t necessarily control the fact that the noises exist, there are ways to minimize or eliminate these noises from infiltrating our personal space.

And when outside and background noise is minimized or eliminated, the result can be a noticeably positive change in human productivity. A study by the Federal Interagency Committee on Aviation Noise revealed that when the outside noise of airplanes flying over a school was reduced, test scores among high school students increased by 12%. Now, airplanes are a dramatic example of noise, but the evidence shown in the study speaks for itself – reduction in noise reduces distractions, increases productivity.

Here are some suggestions to reduce the sources of noise and stress in your life.

Check Your Environment – When you sit down to complete a task that requires your full attention, and you find yourself easily distracted, take a look around – is your office disorganized, have a décor that encourages a lack of concentration, or is the furniture arranged in a way that encourages distraction? For example, if your desk faces a window that overlooks a busy street, maybe you should turn your desk in another direction. How does your space or office feel? If the colors and décor are too loud and busy with bright colors, patterns and designs, it may be time for a makeover to tone it down a bit if the space is constantly distracting, rather than inspiring, you. On the other end of the spectrum, if your office décor has muted tones and bare walls, you may need to spruce it up a bit to make your office more interesting. Lastly, clutter is an unappreciated distraction for many of us. If your desk is buried under piles of old files and junk mail, your mind can easily trail off to thinking about what’s in the pile instead of being focused on the task at hand.

Tune the Noise Out – Even after making sure there are no distractions in your own personal space, you still face the noise of others. Especially for many of us who work in open offices with cubicles, something as small as a quiet conversation between two coworkers can destroy our concentration. Earplugs are an option, but are limited in their ability to truly turn off the outside noise in your environment. A set of headphones, such as the EX29 Extreme Isolation Noise Reduction Headphones, can completely tune out the noise. Unlike noise cancellation headphones that attempt to balance the noise coming into the headphones to the noise outside of the headphones to create quiet, noise reduction headphones go a step further and block outside noise. In addition to blocking out distracting noises to help increase concentration, the EX29 Extreme Isolation headphones do not need batteries and you can wear them for hours without fatigue. If you use them to listen to music, you do not have to raise the volume to override outside noise – instead, you will be able to enjoy the intricate nuances of your favorite music.

Get Your Downward Dog On – A routine yoga practice can reduce the “noise in your head” so that when you do sit down to concentrate, you won’t be distracted by the noise between your ears. There are several different types of Yoga for various fitness levels, and with the focus on breathing to ease the flow of oxygen throughout the body, most people notice a significant difference in stress levels from their very first Yoga session. There are many medical research reports to support the health benefits of the exercise done in Yoga, and many Yogis claim success in gaining an ability to focus on the present moment, making them more productive and less stressed than non-Yogis.

Research from sources such as Cornell University, Yale University, University College London, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health point to a link between noise and stress. While there are many other ways to reduce the stress in your life, the above suggestions are a prescription to minimizing the noise and stress that you inevitably face everyday.

How Your Diet Can Affect Snoring

One of the relatively easy things you can change to help improve a snoring problem is your diet.
If you're overweight, cutting back your calories and starting an exercise program to lose some of the weight can definitely help. Men only need to be about 20% overweight for it to cause snoring.

If you're not overweight, there are still other diet changes that can help. Certain types of foods are known to increase the chances of snoring while other types can lessen the chances.

One of the foods that can lead to snoring is milk and milk products. This is especially true if you have them shortly before going to bed.

Milk increases the mucous production, which can restrict your throat's airflow. Even cheese can have a similar effect.

To find out if this is the reason you're snoring at night, stop eating dairy products within 4 hours of going to sleep. If you do this for a couple of weeks and notice a decrease in your snoring, this is likely one of the triggers.

In that case, you've got a couple of alternatives. You can either start using dairy alternatives like soy milk or just restrict your dairy intake in the evenings. This may not completely get rid of your snoring but it should make a marked improvement.

Allergic reactions to certain foods can also lead to snoring problems. If you've noticed (or have been told) that your snoring is worse when you've eaten certain foods that day, keep a log for 2-4 weeks and see if you see any correlation between foods and snoring.

If you do find any similarities try cutting those foods out for 2-4 weeks and see if the problem disappears.

Another more general rule to help decrease snoring is not to have a big meal or eat fatty foods late in the evening.

Before making any major dietary changes, you should always consult a health care professional to get their informed opinion.

A Review of Acne Diets

To suffer from acne? This affliction can be a rather tumultuous one if you don't seek to proper treatment. The way we look, as we all know, has a huge effect on our confidence, or lack there of. So how does your complexion look? You are certainly not alone can happen to have acne, but it isn't the end of the world by any means either. It's time to stand up straight and tall, and take control of your life. With the numerous resources at our beck and call, there's absolutely no reason why we can't push to be acne free. While proper skin care and reliable treatments are essential in eradicating blemishes, a great many individuals overlook the other things. It's not just about what's on an outside ladies and gentlemen. We have to consider what goes on inside us as well. What we're talking about here are acne diets. What are you eating?
You may not even be familiar with the subject of acne diets, it isn't talked about too much. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I remember couple years ago sitting in the doctor's office in with my lovely wife is there because she was heading back pain. I had really chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had any Chapstick in her purse. This caught the doctor's attention when she looked at me and said, "You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet." Huh? She told me that eating the right nutrients and drinking the right fluids on a regular basis would fully heal my left and and keep them from becoming chapped. This astounded me.

However, since then I have started to heat and more healthy they can guess what... I rarely have chapped lips anymore. It's bizarre how some things work. I guess those doctors to actually know what they're talking about. Anyhow, this premise also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Sounds weird doesn't? Well, certain substances from the foods do actually make their way out of our pores. This gives whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is precisely why acne diets are so vitally important for some individuals. Foods high in fat and grease have been proven to cause blemishes. I'm talking about fast foods, specifically.

When it comes to acne diets, foods that are great for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water, drink lots of water. I highly recommend that you give acne diets a chance if blemishes are haunting you. You should definitely improve your complexion if you give it a fair shot. For more information on acne diets, jump on the Internet where there's more information than you can handle.

Myths, Mistakes And Misconceptions About Exercise

Misconceptions, mistakes and myths about exercise can cause a lot of people to avoid exercise. The following are some tips to clear up any confusion and improve your work out routine. Don’t let these misconceptions prevent you from getting the exercise you want and need.
Mistake: Failure to make goals. Many exercise without a goal of where they want to be. How can you track your progress if you don’t have a goal? For example, if your goal is weight loss then by tracking your progress you will be more motivated to continue exercising.

Misconception: No Pain equals No Gain. This is not true. While exercise will result in soreness, pain is your body telling you that something is not right. Listen to your body. Start slow and work your way up to more advanced and intense exercise. Exercise correctly and enjoy the benefits for the rest of your life.

Pain and soreness is normal following exercise. If you are sore give your body time to heal before you exercise again. If you work out while you are in pain you could cause permanent damage to your muscle, tendons, and ligaments. Secondly, if you are constantly in pain you will most likely not want to exercise and your new work out program will be finished.

Mistake: Sacrificing Quality for Quantity: Over exhaustion can lead to poor form and performing an exercise incorrectly can inhibit results and lead to injury. In order to increase intensity and push yourself further safely try increasing the number of sets you do instead of increasing the number of repetitions per set. If needed decrease the number of repetitions per set in order to do more sets. This type of exercise can help develop your fast twitch muscle fibers.

Myth: Lifting Weights make Woman Bulky: Woman can use weight training to strengthen and tone up, burn fat and increase their metabolism without getting huge muscles. Woman do not have the hormones to grow large muscles like men do. The results of weight training also depend a lot on how weights are used. For example, using progressively heavier weight while decreasing repetitions is conducive to muscle growth while lower weight for more reps tones and burns fat.

Mistake: Doing Only what you are Good At: Work on your weaker areas initially while maintaining your strong points. If you have a strong upper body then focus on your lower body until you are more balanced.

Exercise is great for health and for life but do it wisely so you can continue to exercise for a long time.

Description of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The description of irritable bowel syndrome typically used by doctors evaluating patient symptoms is pain or discomfort in the abdomen that is relieved by a bowel movement, changes in frequency or appearance of the stool and bloating or gas. These symptoms can be associated with other digestive disorders, some which are more serious, so even if your symptoms fit the description of irritable bowel syndrome, it is important to discuss them with your doctor. The specific causes of irritable bowel syndrome are unknown, but it affects an estimated one out of every five people at some point in their lives.
The possible causes of irritable bowel syndrome differ depending on whether the pain or discomfort is accompanied by diarrhea or constipation. Treatment plans vary as well. Too much fiber in the diet may lead to diarrhea and some people may be overly sensitive to certain types of fiber. Too little fiber in the diet may lead to constipation. Everyone experiences diarrhea or loose stools and constipation at times, but people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome experience frequent or chronic abdominal pain that is associated with changes in the frequency of bowel movements.

The description of irritable bowel syndrome used by physicians will include either constipation or diarrhea, in other words, the diagnosis will read IBS with constipation or IBS with diarrhea. In some cases, people experience both at different times, that is to say sometimes they have pain that is followed by diarrhea and sometimes they have pain that is accompanied by constipation.

The number of times that a person needs to move their bowels varies. Some may have a movement two or three times per day and others only two or three times per week. As previously mentioned, it is a change in frequency of movements that fits the description of irritable bowel syndrome. Women suffer from IBS more frequently than men and, because of this; it is believed that monthly hormonal changes may be possible causes of irritable bowel syndrome in women.

Other possible causes of irritable bowel syndrome include food allergies or sensitivities, enzyme deficiencies, imbalance of bacteria in the intestinal tract and stress. Some say that stress is definitely not one of the causes of irritable bowel syndrome, but many people who suffer from IBS suffer from anxiety, stress or other emotional issues, as well. In addition, studies have shown that stress management, behavioral and hypnotic therapies can all relieve some or all of the symptoms included in the description of irritable bowel syndrome. These therapies have been effective in both IBS with diarrhea and IBS with constipation.

A Review of ADHD Treatments

If you have a child who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD for short, you have at your disposal a number of effective treatments that you can employ. The most common ADHD treatments usually involve as their biggest part the use of drugs like Ritalin or Dexedrine.
These drugs manipulate the balance of receptors in the brain so that the individual finds it easier to concentrate. In addition the ADHD treatments should involve the use of some counseling. Teaching effective study skills can also go a long way in combating ADHD.

The problem is that many ADHD treatments address the physiological to the detriment of the other causes of the disorder. This is a problem, because ADHD children need assistance in properly warming strategies and creating scenarios in which they can be successful in their endeavors. So as an addendum to the drugs, some counseling in study skills and habits are a necessity for treating the disorder properly. It is not enough just to medicate as an ADHD treatment, because this only will solve half of the problem.

Too many times we have seen that everyone's answer to treatment is to just throw medication at it. This is so wrong in such a great disservice. So many kids just get ADHD treatments by being dosed with medication that there has recently been a bit of a backlash. Many other kinds of ADHD treatments have come out recently and received support instead of the drugging.

Some people believe that a well balanced diet itself can form one of the most effective ADHD treatments. According to them, eating the right foods and eliminating all junk food, sugar, and highly processed or caffeinated stuff can form the best of ADHD treatments, without the side effects of the drugs. Many ADD and ADHD kids hate the drugs that they are on, and complain that they make them feel like zombies. If drug free ADHD treatment works, why not switch?

I even know of some adults that takes the drug is to help them concentrate better in everyday life. They can actually become addicted to these drugs in and of stealing them from the person that they were prescribed to. And usually that's their children, how sad is that?

Other people recommend meditation techniques as ADHD treatments. They say that the best way to treat ADHD is to take advantage of the mind's natural flexibility and to tap into its natural powers of relaxation and healing. These new age practitioners believe that daily meditation, focus, relaxation, and an end to the anxiety that plagues ADHD kids can be achieved, these experts claim. I don't have a problem with trying this as long as it's not to the detriment of the patient.

I don't think that there is one right way to go in there for everything else is wrong. That to me is rather narrowminded. Although meditation may not be one of the most popular of ADHD treatments, it should be considered. Meditation is good for so many things – concentration, calm, an end to anxiety, that there is no reason to believe that it couldn't help with ADHD treatments as well.

Acne Care - Determine Your Skin Type

People have different type of skins which determines in a big way how acne will affect it and what type of treatment to use on it. Also it will determine what products to use to generally care for the skin.
Some questions have to be asked before seeking treatment. First, how often do you break out? Do you have blackheads? What do your pores look like? After washing with soap, how does your skin look and feel? Do you have facial lines? By asking yourself these questions, you can determine what types of products will work best for you and how your skin might react to them.

The three basic skin types are:dry, oily, normal. One can have either of the three or a combination of them, e.g normal to oily, or normal to dry. Each skin type or combination requires different treatment products.

Now each of this skin types has different types of the following characteristics:texture, oil production and frequency of breakouts.Dry skin usually has the least number of breakouts since it produces little oil.Oil is the one which causes pores to clog resulting in pimples.

Dry skin usually has nearly visible pores and may feel dry and tight after washing.People with this type of skin are usually fair skinned and develop facial lines earlier in life. However this skin type also burns easily.

Normal skin is characterized by occassional breakouts and blackheads in the T-zone.This zone is the area on the forehead and either side of the nose.Pores often appear visible in the t-zone, and the skin may feel tight after washing. The skin is usually fair to medium with facial lines appearing early around the eyes.it burns when exposed to sun but thereafter tans.

Oily skin suffers the most breakouts with blackheads and due to it's oily nature often appears as shiny after washing. The color is usually olive to dark -what Africans have-and doesn't age as fast as the other skin types. This means that facial lines rarely do occur. On exposure to the sun, it tans easily and rarely burns.

The key to finding the right treatment for your skin is to determine it's type. Each type has specific treatment producsts for it. Once you determine this, you can be on your way to treat the acne in the correct way.

Lose Weight By Getting Rid Of Your Negative Thoughts

To lose weight in today’s world is one of the toughest feats one can accomplish. With fast food restaurants on the rise and easy microwaveable dishes for quick meals, it is no wonder that so many people are overweight and are unable to lose weight. How do you plan for weight loss when chips and soft drinks for snacks and a burger on the run is how many people eat on a daily basis. However, the biggest issue to deal with when you are trying to lose weight are the negative thoughts that accompanies being overweight.
Negative thoughts tend to override the positive in many people’s lives and they come out in full force on those who are facing the task of trying to lose weight. The most important thing one can do before trying to lose weight is to begin a daily journal. By keeping a daily journal for two weeks, you will be able to understand when and why these negative thoughts come out and how they may hinder your attempt to lose weight. By focusing first on the habits you have, you will begin to understand how you can plan for weight loss before you actually begin to lose weight.

When you start your journal, you’ll want to include what you are eating, what time it is, and how you feel at that particular moment. Are you having any negative thoughts? If so, write down what they are and move on. Were you actually hungry when you ate? Write this down, as well. Don’t worry about your weight loss program, just record your entries. An entry should be made for every snack, meal, or binging session you have and any thoughts about trying to lose weight. This will help you to develop your weight loss program.

After the two weeks of entering your eating times and thoughts into your daily journal, sit down and analyze the results. How many times did you have a snack (not meals) when you were having negative thoughts? How many times did you eat when you weren’t hungry but were having negative thoughts? Most often, you’ll discover you do not follow a weight loss program because of negative thoughts. These negative thoughts are what will stop you from trying to lose weight and they must be changed to more positive thoughts if your weight loss program is to be a success.

Now that you’ve discovered how you are feeling when you eat and when negative thoughts are entering your mind, it is time to plan for weight loss. If you want to lose weight you need to get rid of the negative thoughts such as, “I’ll never lose weight” and “I’m so fat.” Instead, replace them with, “I’m getting slimmer and slimmer every day”, and “I look more and more beautiful and fit every day”. Be positive that you will lose weight and if a negative thought enters your mind, get rid of it by replacing it with a more positive statement about yourself.

By getting rid of negative thoughts, you’ll able to follow your weight loss program. This will help you to lose weight and regain a healthier lifestyle. By forming a plan to lose weight, you’ll be able to discover patterns in your behavior such as negative thoughts, that influence your eating habits. To lose weight is difficult; however, if you can begin by changing negative thoughts to more positive ones, you’ll begin to lose weight at once.
