When most people hear the word 'anemia', they immediately think of iron. But a shortage of Vitamin B6 can also cause a type of anemia because this vitamin is vital to the healthy generation of hemoglobin in the blood of a normal, healthy person. You may also associate Vitamin B6 with sugar diabetes, and thats because one of the important functions of this vitamin is to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood.

Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine. You may not have heard of many people who were found to have a serious Vitamin B6 deficiency, and theres a good reason for that. B6 is so readily available in so many foods that it's a fairly simple matter to get your daily recommended allowances of this vitamin.

Some of the common sources of B6 include tuna, roast beef, tomato juice, trout, pork loin and peanut butter. Naturally, cereals that are fortified with vitamins are excellent sources and many provide 100 percent of the body's need for cereal. Three raw bananas also provide a full day's supply of the necessary Vitamin B6. A medium baked potato (including the potato skin) provides about one-third of the daily requirement. Evaluating the foods rich in this vitamin reveals that many people are already meeting the daily requirements for B6.

So what are the dangers of having too little Vitamin B6 in your daily diet? Recent studies suggest that a lack of this vitamin is a factor for determining the risk of stroke and some types of heart disease. That means that people with deficiencies are more likely to suffer from these health issues than their counterparts who are getting sufficient amounts of Vitamin B6.

Depression is another problem potentially impacted by a Vitamin B6 deficiency. Though there may be some difference of opinion as to the role and the importance of B6 and depression, there appears to be a link that cant be denied. In fact, depression is listed by some as one of the symptoms of insufficient Vitamin B6 in the diet.

There are some risks of taking too much B6. Nerves ' especially in the outer extremities ' are sometimes damaged by overdosing the body on vitamin B6. In the majority of cases, simply eliminating any vitamin supplements appears to eliminate the nerve problems as well. Its unlikely that a normal person can take in enough Vitamin B6 from a normal diet to cause toxicity at this level, and more likely that these severe effects of too much B6 are caused by taking too many vitamin supplements containing B6.

Acne is no laughing matter for those who suffer from this ailment, but acne treatment does not have to be difficult to find. With some of the more common types, it can be relatively easy and cheap to resolve the condition, and with the more severe strains of acne it would be recommended to get a doctor's medical opinion.

Once these factors are considered, a dermatologist will have an easier time of prescribing a proper treatment for the severity of the ailments, and may recommend two or more of these.

Skin type and the kind of acne lesions present are some of the more important things when considering a solution, and the solution appropriate for one person you know may not be the most well-recommended solution for you, it may even make the condition worse if you are not careful in choosing the appropriate resolution.

Six to eight weeks is the average that it may take to see your acne clear up, but there are never any quick solutions to the problem of truly persistent acne problems.

Tennis elbow is also known as 'lateral epicondylitis'. Contrary to popular belief, playing tennis is not the only cause for tennis elbow. In fact, people who suffer from this problem have hardly played the game. In this condition the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender. The pain causes the movements of the elbow to be constrained. Simple actions such as lifting, gripping and carrying become difficult. One of the strongest reasons for this condition is the overuse of muscles i.e. the muscles which pull the hand backwards (the wrist extensors). Over straining causes an inflammation that may be swollen, painful and tender. Injury to the arm can be another reason for inflammation. Tennis elbow is mainly caused when some activities like gripping, twisting, reaching and moving are done in an improper manner or an awkward position, repetitive stress, excess force and no time for recovery provided for the wear and tear.

Some of the movements which can be restricted or can avoid repetitiveness are continuous rotation of the forearm and bending of the wrist, gripping in a stressful position by combining inward and outward movement of the forearm, throwing motions and gestures that strike objects with hand.

Common symptoms to be aware when affected by tennis elbow

Your forearm suffers recurring pain on the outside of the upper forearm.
The pain is branched out from the arm towards the wrist.
Pain while lifting or bending the arm.
Pain while grasping small and light objects could be sign of concern.
Trouble or discomfort while extending the arm.
Pain which lasts for 6 to 12 weeks or even more.

Common tips to remember

-Resting is one of the best solutions to treat this problem
-You can use braces which are available in various sports shop. It is very helpful in relieving pain from tennis elbow problem.
-Try to lift objects with your palm facing your body.
- Being aware of the problem and treating it immediately
-Use machines instead of your hands to avoid any repetition
-Allow job rotations for everyone to get used to different muscles
-Use ergonomically designed tools that prevent strain on your hands.

Home remedies for Tennis Elbow

For the inflamed elbow you can use ice compress which helps in decreasing the pain. Ice helps in slowing down the local metabolism, thus helps in relieving pain and muscle spasm.

Use massage therapy.

Do your regular stretching exercises to prevent any kind of friction to your forearms. The stretching helps in strengthening the forearms.

Some exercises you can do to help strengthen your muscles. With the palm facing the ceiling, place your forearm on a desk with the wrist tucked over the edge. Grip any heavy object like a hammer or a two-pound juice can. Lift your hand up and down by moving your wrist, repeat this 20 times. Do this with the both the arms.

Warm and baked potato applied to the elbow can help relief the pain of tennis elbow.

Acupuncture can be used for treating tennis elbow problem. As it stimulates nervous system and also releases pain-relieving endorphins.

Working to become a better you can cut down anxiety and panic attacks. Things that create stress are called stressors. Stressors can happen outside of you or in your mind. For something to be stressful, the event must be threatening to you in some way. Usually a stressor is threatening when it will have a big impact on you. It is important to know that stressors are the leaders of stress, and often target us each and every day.

It is not uncommon that people are the main creator of stressors. They are constantly pulling you away from your daily plans and goals, just to talk, wanting you go out with them, or other disruptive tasks and sometimes chores. Remember that you are working toward a future that you will live and be happy in. Thus, asserting self and standing up and fighting to reach your goals is ultimate in bettering you and getting rid of anxiety and panic.

Taking action is the process of bettering self for a successful future. When you take action, you will find it easier to remove stressors. I could spend a lifetime yelling each time I allowed someone to take control of my life, but instead, I control my own life and have no problem letting anyone know it. Of course, things come up we must deal with that interferes and interrupts our lives, however dealing with it now can put an end to the problem later.

Stressors are nasty little critters that work for us or against us. If you learn to minimize stressors you will have a friend, since when stress steps in, you will rarely feel anxious or panic. Now take the test to find out how you deal with stress.

Test:

Do you place high emphasis on small problems making them bigger? If you answered yes, then you need to check your mind carefully before jumping to conclusions.

Do you often place high importance on insignificant issues? Do you disassociate from inconsequentiality, i.e. do you let the little things go? If you answered yes to one then learn what is important to you. If you said yes to the second question then you are working to better self, since you are not sweating the small stuff.

Asking questions and searching for answers can help you to avoid stressors, overwhelming stress, anxiety and panic. Once you ask questions and seek out answers, you will grow into resourcefulness, which is a healthy state of mind.

Resourcefulness enables you to use ingenuity and imagination while learning inventiveness. You will find originality, which is a high commendable quality that we all seek. In other words, you creative mind will explore possibilities; learn to weigh consequences and so forth, reducing stress, anxiety and panic.

Originality is finding something new in your life and about you. As you develop your imagination, you will soon discover how the mind s eyes work. The step to better you clears the mind, reducing stress on the head and enforcing your thoughts to flow freely. Take the test.

Imagine you in the next few weeks feeling better about self. Imagine self-smiling, feeling good, and not fearing anxiety and panic. Keep going while telling you that from now on I intend to work toward a better me. I am not going to allow stressors, stress, anxiety and panic to control my life. Now, imagine self-doing it, while planning actions and steps to achieve your newfound goal to a better you.

Compared to most of the sports and other physical activity that you can think of, Yoga requires very little by way of accessories. However, you may need to pay attention to the little that is needed because of some peculiarities of Yoga. The accessories that you may need for Yoga include your apparel, mats, props, bags, training material like DVDs, and books.

Apparel

Yoga exercises require you to stretch and bend and assume postures that reverse your normal ones. This means that you need to take care of the clothes you wear during these exercises so that they do not come in your way or distract you, but help you concentrate on the exercise instead. If you are practicing at home, you might be tempted to wear any old dress. Whether youre practicing at home or outside, there are certain basic rules that you need to keep in mind. Your clothing should be comfortable, while at the same time being neither too loose nor too tight. If you wear loose clothing, it might fall over your face, for example when you do exercises that involve standing on your shoulders or head. Tight clothes are going to prevent you from having enough flexibility that is required to do your exercises properly. The clothing should be such that you are not worried about unintentional exposure. The clothing should be such that it does not distract you from your exercises and meditation. You should be able to find appropriate clothing in a sports apparel shop or in online stores.

Mats

Yoga exercises are performed on the floor usually with bare feet. The postures may lead to loss of balance especially in the beginning stages and may result in a fall. You need something that will avoid direct contact of your body with the bare floor that will also protect you in case you lose balance and fall. Yoga exercises can make you sweat a lot, in turn introducing a tendency to slip easily. Mats can help you here and minimize the potential to slip and also protect you in case you do. A yoga mat is designed with precisely these requirements in mind, and is an invaluable accessory for serious practitioners of yoga. Yoga mats can be purchased online.

Props

Initially some of the postures may be difficult for beginners to assume. You may need some help with these at least to start with. There are a variety of props available that can help you with many of these difficult postures.

Bags

Bags are useful for carrying your yoga accessories around easily. Yoga bags are most helpful in carrying your mats around, so make sure the size of the bag that you choose matches the size of your mat. The bags have provision to store other accessories and personal items as well.

Books and Videos

If you are unable to go to a Yoga class, would like to have a handy source for revision of what is done in the class, or would like to prepare yourself prior to attending the class, Yoga books, video CDs and DVDs are invaluable aids that can help you. Yoga videos are available for various kevels of practitioners and can take you step by step. The added bonus is that these videos are usually produced by world-renowned Yoga masters, so that you get the best of advice. Yoga music is another item that you may want to add to your list of accessories. Good music can make your Yoga experience more pleasant and productive. All these items books, video CDs, DVDs, and music are available online, so that you can make your choice from the comfort of your home.

If you discover that you recently suffer from acne, dont desperate, there are possible cures for this skin disease. If the cause of acne has been established, a solution is possible.

Anyone with or who has had acne can tell you, how many times a day they've cleaned their faces with anti-bacterial facial wash and still faced new pimples the next day.

The same goes for all the other topical creams for acne available in the market, which kills germs and open up blocked pores. These may provide temporary relief, but you will never experience acne free skin by only focusing on acne from the outside.

The real and main causes of acne are hormone imbalance, water retention and toxins. Lets talk about hormones. Hormones are chemicals that are produced by glands in the body and circulate in the bloodstream that control numerous body functions including sebum (skin oil) production and regulation. The hormones that are responsible for acne are called androgens. This is because androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands (glands in the skin that secrete oil to the surface of the skin.)

When you have too many androgens in the blood, your sebaceous glands begin to over-produce oil in the skin. You have to be clear that it is not only oil that will cause acne but its the initial problem you want to resolve.

The next part of the problem is toxins in the blood and lymph. When your liver and kidneys are not properly cleansing the blood and are overloaded, the liver is unable to properly 'deactivate' used hormones and remove them from the body.

The combination of oil, bacteria and toxins blocks pores generate Acne. Inside the blocked pores also are bacteria which grow in a low-oxygen environment. This bacteria aggravates the skin condition and causes an inflammatory disease, otherwise known as acne.

Hormone imbalance doesn't only cause acne, but can be responsible for many other problems including: allergies, fatigue, headaches, mood swings and insomnia.

For most teenagers, hormone imbalance occurs during puberty when the body is busy producing hormones for growth, maturity and reproduction. In case of adult acne, it predominately arises from the inability of the liver and kidneys to effectively eliminate excess hormones and toxins from the blood.

In order to cure your acne you have to be able to get your hormones into balance by feeding your body the key nutrients that aid hormone regulation in the glands and also strengthen the liver which is the other hormone regulatory system. You have to also apply a topic that trigger the self healing process of your skin, this way you will avoid further blemishes while you are treating the main cause of acne.

Nail fungus treatment is very important. The sooner you begin treatment the better. If left untreated, nail fungus can become very painful and unsightly. Unfortunately many people ignore nail fungus until the symptoms worsen.

It is estimated that three to five percent of the population suffer from nail fungus. Most often, nail fungus appears in the toenails. This is because socks and shoes keep the toenails dark, warm, and moist. This is a perfect place for the fungus to grow.

Before discussing the best nail fungus treatment, we will go over what nail fungus is, and how to prevent it.

What is nail fungus

Nail fungus (also called onychomycosis) is made up of very small organisms that can infect fingernails and toenails. These organisms are called dermatophytes. Fungi are parasitic plant organisms, such as molds and mildew. These parasitic organisms lack chlorophyll and therefore do not require sunlight for growth. Nail fungus is very common. More than 35 million people in the US have it under their nails.

Once the nail fungus moves in under the nail, it is difficult to reach and stop. The nail provides a safe place for the fungus and protects it while it grows. This is why basic prevention is so important.

Nail fungus can sometimes spread from one person to another. These organisms can live where the air is often moist and people's feet are bare. Common places that fungus can spread include: shower stalls, bathrooms, or locker rooms. It can also be passed along when you share a nail file or clippers with someone who has a nail fungus infection. Nail fungus may also spread from one of your nails to others.

What causes nail fungus

The fungal organisms that cause nail infections are present almost everywhere. Once they get under the nail bed they can be difficult to cure. Anything that damages a nail can make it easier for the fungus to move in. Examples include an injury to the nail such as getting a finger stuck in a door, or tight shoes that pinch the toes.

A weakened immune system can also make it easier for a fungal infection to start. Many medical professionals believe that having a strong immune system is essential for preventing fungus infections.

Nail fungus prevention

By following common sense precautions, including proper hygiene and regular inspection of the feet and toes, the chances of the problem occurring can be sharply reduced, or halted.

Tips to avoid nail fungus:

-Wash your feet regularly with soap and water.
-Remember to dry your feet thoroughly after washing.
-Properly fitted shoes are essential

There is an array of prescription arthritis medications which doctors can supply to help with rheumatoid arthritis. While none of these arthritis medications cure arthritis, they can relieve pain, relieve symptoms, and even slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce pain and assist with inflammation. These drugs can be used as an arthritis medicine and may be obtained over the counter and by. (A lot of people are aware of aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.) The only negative side to these arthritis medications is they might cause stomach problems, such as indigestion and bleeding. They can also raise blood pressure in a person and cause susceptibility to fluid retention.

COX-2 inhibitors are a kind of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which do not cause as much harm to the stomach. This class of arthritis medication functions by suppressing an enzyme known as cyclooxygenase which is involved in inflammation. However, fluid retention and elevated blood pressure may result as side effects of COX-2 inhibitors. It has also been said that individuals who use this class of drug may be at higher risk of a stroke or heart attack.

Corticosteroids are arthritis medications which are able to reduce pain and inflammation. They can also moderate the damage to joints caused by rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, quite a few arthritis patients who take corticosteroids have claimed that they feel considerably better. However, after a time the effectiveness of corticosteroids may diminish. There is also the chance of experiencing serious side effects such as diabetes, weight gain, and decreased bone density, after long-time use of corticosteroids.

It is crucial to see a doctor at the first signs of rheumatoid arthritis. While modern medicine has not been able to produce a cure for arthritis, they are making progress in pain relief and bringing down the progression of rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis affects the immune system. Immunosuppressants can be supplied as an arthritis medication to assist with he balance of the immune system. Without such treatment, the immune system in rheumatoid arthritis patients is out of balance and it is out of control. TNF blockers are sometimes prescribed in tandem with an immunosuppressant. TNF blockers serve to block the protein which inflames the joints. Arthritis sufferers who use TNF blockers have reported that pain was lower and stiffness alleviated.

Those diagnosed quickly with rheumatoid arthritis can be given arthritis medications referred to as disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. These drugs slow the development of rheumatoid arthritis. Thus, if the arthritis is diagnosed early, a lot of damage to the joints can be avoided.

What is sciatica? Sciatica is the official name given to a pain in the leg, foot, or buttock, brought on by a form of irritation to the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the entire body.

Sciatica is most commonly caused by a slipped disc in the lower back, some form of arthritis, or a pinched nerve. It begins with back pain, followed by calf or hamstring pain, and sometimes included numbness in the toes. Forms of sciatica, resulting from inflammation get better with time, healing themselves. However, bed rest is not the best way to treat sciatica. It is shown that remaining active and performing exercises that are not weight bearing can help. Given time, even herniated spinal discs can heal.

Treatment for sciatica is varied. It is only possible to find out what treatment is best for you by going to your doctor for an accurate diagnosis. Your doctor may order an MRI to conclude the exact cause of sciatic pain, although many physicians can determine the cause through physical examination alone.

Proper stretching and exercising, combined with over-the-counter pain medications can assist on the road to recovery. If your pain is not relieved by the milder pain medications, your doctor may prescribe a naroctic analgesic. However be advised that these medications can cause nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness, and may result in dependency if taken over long periods of time. In extreme cases, surgery may be required to remove fragment of the disc.

It is important to stay active. Do exercises that develop muscles in your back and stomach. This helps to stablilize your spine. It is also important to maintain a reasonable body weight. Ensure that you practice good posture, and sleep on a mattress that is neither too hard or too soft.

You should always discuss health matters with your physician, especially if you suffer progressive weakness, as this may constitute a medical emergency. The problem thought to be something easily treated may be a serious condition caused by the compression of the nerve roots in the lower end ofthe spinal canal, which requires immediate medical attention.

Your resource to helping you lose weight and become healthy

1) Since you wish to lose weight, your target = BMR - 500 kcal Work out your BMR basal metabolic rate - this is to define how many calories your body will require per day. By having too many calories you will simply put on weight, having less than you require will help you to lose weight. Body weight (lb) x 15 + (moderate activity [mins/pday] x 3.5) as you want to lose weight then your target = BMR-500 kcal.

2) Fruit for breakfast - Try eating fruit for breakfast! Fresh fruit - apples, grapefruit, strawberries, cherries, oranges, kiwi, melon, and grapes all count. In fact, any fruit works - and there are so many to choose from. Eating fruit for breakfast will get you on the road to having a healthier body right away. Fruit in its raw form is full of vitamins and minerals and will give you lots of energy and also it is low in calories.

3) Eat slowly - When we eat slowly, the process of chewing and mixing foods in our mouth with saliva is the first step in digestion. The more we chew our foods, the less work is needed to digest them. For people who are constantly experiencing bloating, stomach pain or heartburn after eating, they are eating too fast and are causing indigestion. The other benefit of eating slowly is to prevent over eating. By eating slowing, we allow the stomach to signal the brain when we have eaten enough before we have eaten too much. For people who want to eat less, eating slowly is most effective.

4) Regular exercise - For the best results, add exercise to your plan. Regular exercise not only expends energy as you're doing it, but can also lead to increases in your basal metabolic rate, so you'll burn more Calories even at rest. High-intensity exercises burn the most Calories, but don't select exercises solely on their fat-burning potential. Instead, pick exercises (i.e. sports activities) that you enjoy, and want to incorporate into your daily routine.

5) Portion size - You can lose weight and still eat your favorite foods! Just decrease your portion sizes by half. For example, if you are used to eating a whole baguette or sub sandwich at lunch, just eat half and supplement your meal with raw veggies on the side and finish of with some fresh fruit. Then wait to see if you're still hungry. If you pause after eating the first half and allow yourself a few minutes to feel satiated, you just may find you're too full to eat the other half anyway.

6) Natural foods - natural foods are so much better than processed foods as they contain more goodness in the way of vitamins and minerals, they are lower in fat and do not contain any hidden harmful additives such as preservatives and pesticides. A lot of processed foods contain a lot of hidden sugars which will make you put on weight.

7) Indulgence - Don't feel guilty about giving yourself a treat from time to time, just make sure you keep an eye on the quantity and frequency of it. If you deny yourself any treats then you are more likely to relapse into your old unhealthy ways.

8) Watch out for sugary drinks - many fruit drinks contain hidden added sugars. Juices, pop, cream & sugar in your coffee or tea all add up. Opt for drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. In addition to providing hydration to your body, it will also help you feel full.

9) Keep a journal - Keeping a food journal helps you pin point your eating pattern and will enable you to easily modify it. If possible, have your Registered Dietitian review your journal.

10) Do not skip meals - Eating small frequent meals help to balance your calorie intake throughout the day and also keeps your blood sugar level balanced. Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 - 6 smaller meals throughout the day. If you cut back and miss too many meals your body will go into a starvation mode and subsequently hang onto its fat stores.

If you work for longer period of time on computer and do not use ergonomic mouse pads then you may have to keep the hands in an awkward situation for whole of the duration and underside of the palm may experience sharp pains. Ergonomic mouse pads are designed keeping in mind that human body is not designed for typing at the speed of sixty words per minute or using the mouse endlessly.

Ergonomic Mouse Pads Have Far Reaching Consequences

There are many people who go to the office every day for the work and never bother about the consequences of working without considering ergonomics of the office equipments they use. Result of such ignorance is that they work on the computers without having ergonomic keyboard trays or ergonomic mouse pads. Every company should sincerely consider the principles of ergonomics to prevent various health problems of their employees. People believe that it is only physical labor that causes stress on the body. However, when you work for longer period on the computers you may experience same type of stress. Most common places of injury are wrists, palms, elbows, shoulders and back. Most people are not aware about the reason of these injuries and they continue working in the same environment and their conditions keep on deteriorating. With more and more people complaining of MSDs of palms and wrists, importance of ergonomic mouse pads are increasing day by day. Designing experts have realized the severity of the situation and are coming up with new ideas. Thanks to the sincere efforts made by the designers, there are several options available in the market today to solve the problem of increasing MSDs. They have designed the ergonomic keyboards that can be divided into two halves. Each half is capable of accommodating each hand with less wrist twisting. However, when it comes to the designing of ergonomic mouse pads, the solutions are much easier. Basic requirement from ergonomic mouse pads is comfortable lifting of wrist and relaxing the stress caused by mouse holding for longer periods. Different manufacturers have devised different techniques. Some ergonomic mouse pads come with memory pad for relaxing the wrists. These memory pads are somewhat like TempurPedic mattresses that you used to watch on television. These wrist friendly pads help in relieving points of pressure and improving the blood pressure.

Experience Piece of Mind

These factors highlight the importance of ergonomic office equipments. Now, anybody can understand what difference ergonomic mouse pads and ergonomic keyboard trays can make. This is very crucial factor. Having ergonomic mouse pads and other such equipments not only relaxes the employees working in the office but also improves the efficiency. Instead of concentrating on the level of discomfort, they will now focus only on the task at the hand.

Arm Support is Also Helpful

For the people who need to use mouse for hours, it is advisable that they should also have an arm support that can provide support to both arm and shoulder. This will not only take off the stress on your spine but also help in alignment of wrists. You will also be able to prevent diseases such as Repetitive Stress Injury and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Ergonomic mouse pads come in grip less design so you do not have to feel the pressure of gripping the mouse for all the day while you are working in the office.

Health Guru : Managing Arthritis Pain Calcium and Vitamins
Webmaster | 13. February 2008 @ 16:02

Arthritis is a complex disorder that comprises more than 100 distinct conditions and can affect people at any stage of life. Two of the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. These two forms have very different causes, risk factors, and effects on the body. The most common symptom in both is persistent joint pain. The joint pain of arthritis can appear as hip pain, knee pain, hand pain, or wrist pain, as well as joint pain in other areas of the body.

For most people arthritis pain and inflammation cannot be avoided as the body ages. Joints naturally degenerate over time. Fortunately, arthritis can be managed through a combination of vitamins, medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition, and, in some cases, surgery. Arthritis is a chronic disease that will be with you for a long time and possibly for the rest of your life. Your treatments will probably change over time and medication may be adjusted. Having a positive mental outlook and the support of family and friends will help you live with arthritis and be able to continue to perform your daily activities.

Before going any further, it is important that you remember to discuss any and all vitamins and supplements with your doctor before adding anything to your diet. Though it is not common, some vitamins and supplements can have adverse reactions with medications you may already be taking. Do not stop taking any prescribed medications without first talking to your doctor.

As an alternative to getting your RDA through diet, many people now take vitamin supplements. The following list of vitamins are known to be especially beneficial to arthritis sufferers:

Vitamin B5 - When grouped together B vitamins work at their peak, B5 specifically being good for reducing swelling.

Vitamin B3 - This vitamin reduces tissue swelling and dilates small arteries, improved grip strength and joint mobility and increasing blood flow. Note that Vitamin B3 is NOT advised for persons with high blood pressure, gout or sliver disorders.

Vitamin B6 - Another B that reduces tissue swelling. B-6 shrinks the synovial membranes that line the weight-bearing surfaces of the joints. It thus helps to control pain and to restore mobility in the elbows, shoulders, knees and other joints.

Vitamin B12 - This vitamin aids in multiple functions. It helps with cell formation, digestion, myelin production, nerve protection.

Vitamin C - This vitamin acts as an anti-inflammatory, relieving pain, and rids the body of free radicals. In addition to reducing inflammation, vitamin C also helps form collagen, the protein "glue" that holds cells together. Collagen is especially important in connective tissue to insure healthy ligaments, cartilage, tendons and the joints themselves.

Vitamin E - This is a strong antioxidant that protects joints from free radicals while increases joint flexibility.

Vitamin K - This vitamin assists with mineral deposit into the bone matrix.

Selenium and Zinc- The antioxidant nutrients such as selenium and zinc might also be effective because of their ability to stop free radical damage to joint linings that in turn causes the accumulation of fluids, swelling and associated pain.

Chondroitin - the key structural component in cartilage and plays an important role in the maintenance of joint cartilage.

These guidelines will help you evaluate supplements to relieve arthritis symptoms. If used under the guidance of your physician, you may find a dietary supplement to compliment your current arthritis therapy regimen. You just need the right information to help you separate potentially useful supplements from the rest.

Health Guru : Acne Care - Determine Your Skin Type
Webmaster | 12. February 2008 @ 16:02

People have different type of skins which determines in a big way how acne will affect it and what type of treatment to use on it. Also it will determine what products to use to generally care for the skin.

Some questions have to be asked before seeking treatment. First, how often do you break out? Do you have blackheads? What do your pores look like? After washing with soap, how does your skin look and feel? Do you have facial lines? By asking yourself these questions, you can determine what types of products will work best for you and how your skin might react to them.

The three basic skin types are:dry, oily, normal. One can have either of the three or a combination of them, e.g normal to oily, or normal to dry. Each skin type or combination requires different treatment products.

Now each of this skin types has different types of the following characteristics:texture, oil production and frequency of breakouts.Dry skin usually has the least number of breakouts since it produces little oil.Oil is the one which causes pores to clog resulting in pimples.

Dry skin usually has nearly visible pores and may feel dry and tight after washing.People with this type of skin are usually fair skinned and develop facial lines earlier in life. However this skin type also burns easily.

Normal skin is characterized by occassional breakouts and blackheads in the T-zone.This zone is the area on the forehead and either side of the nose.Pores often appear visible in the t-zone, and the skin may feel tight after washing. The skin is usually fair to medium with facial lines appearing early around the eyes.it burns when exposed to sun but thereafter tans.

Oily skin suffers the most breakouts with blackheads and due to it's oily nature often appears as shiny after washing. The color is usually olive to dark -what Africans have-and doesn't age as fast as the other skin types. This means that facial lines rarely do occur. On exposure to the sun, it tans easily and rarely burns.

The key to finding the right treatment for your skin is to determine it's type. Each type has specific treatment producsts for it. Once you determine this, you can be on your way to treat the acne in the correct way.

Webmaster | 11. February 2008 @ 16:02

When it comes to selecting an air purifier for your home or office just what are the considerations that matters the most?

It is hard to believe that the air we breathe in daily, especially indoor air, is not fresh. In fact, the EPA has identified that indoor air is some 5 times more polluted than the air outside.

As much as the food we eat determines a lot of our health problems, the air we breathe also plays a dominant part in our health.

That is why we need an air purifier for our home or office.

When we select an air purifier, we need to look at dependable and reliable technology. We would like to have advanced technology that has been tested very stringently, not only in the laboratory but on actual conditions.

Now, what would be very stringent, in fact tough conditions that would really require the best quality air purifier? What is the strongest test of a reliable air purifier?

If you answered, " The Submarine", you would have gotten the correct answer.

The air within a submerged submarine needs to be purified, and the technoloqy used in the air purification system would need to be the best system, proven, tested and reliable. This is because that air within the submarine is the most critical part of the submarine system.

Imagine, technology has progressed till we can now have this same technology in our air purifier.

This alone makes the Oreck Professional Air Purifier stands out among the competition, because it protect the air you breathe with the technology used on U.S. Submarines.

The Oreck Professional Air Purifier quietly cleans by itself 24 hours a day, and captures airborne allergens, trapping particles as tiny as .01 microns (1/100 the width of a human hair.) This technology means it can capture and destroy bacteria, viruses and mold, and capture irritating cooking odors, harmful chemical fumes, unwanted pet odors, second-hand cigarette smoke and other indoor air pollutants such as dust and pollen. In short, it deep cleans very well the air you breathe in!

The technology is so dependable, the Oreck Professional air purifier has a filter that does not need replacing and is guaranteed for 12 years.

If you spend considerably long hours indoors or work from home or is a homeworker, then you should have an air purifier that meets all these requirements. That is why the Oreck Air Purifier is one of the best selling air purifiers in America today.

Health Guru : Suffer Consequences if You Let Health Insurance Lapse.
Webmaster | 10. February 2008 @ 16:02

If you are between jobs and you are considering not paying for COBRA health insurance benefits, you may need to look at alternative interim insurance coverage. COBRA is the law that allows employees to keep their health insurance coverage for 18 months once they leave their job by paying expensive premiums. While COBRA may not be your best option for health insurance, Less expensive medical plans may be an important and necessary expense.

All new health insurance plans are allowed to force new subscribers to suffer a 12 month waiting period for pre-existing conditions. Fortunately there is another law that allows for portability of coverage without having to suffer pre-existing condition waiting periods. That law says that if you have had CONTINUOUS COVERAGE for the 12 months prior to and leading up to the beginning of the new insurance coverage, you will be given credit toward any new pre-existing condition waiting period. If you had 6 months of continuous health insurance coverage prior to taking out your new policy, 6 months would be applied to the 12 month waiting period and bring the new pre-existing condition waiting period down to 6 months. If you had 12 months of continuous coverage, you will not have any waiting period for a pre-existing condition on the new health insurance plan.

CONTINUOUS COVERAGE is defined as continuous health insurance coverage with no lapse of more than 62 days. If you go more than 62 days without coverage, you may have to suffer the full waiting period for pre-existing conditions. For example, if you were taking High Blood Pressure medication, you may have to wait 12 months after starting and paying for the new insurance before the insurance would cover the High Blood Pressure medication.

COBRA might be too expensive for you. However you can get a high deductible individual plan that will satisfy the continuous coverage requirements at a much lower cost. Some short-term insurance plans do not meet the requirements to satisfy the portability law. Speak with a health insurance agent like those at http://www.thackeragency.com to make sure you maintain continuous insurance coverage at the most affordable price. Tell the agent your particular situation and they'll be glad to put you in the best insurance product for you.

Health Guru : Considering Protective in Getting Rid of Anxiety and Panic
Webmaster | 9. February 2008 @ 16:02

One the basic defense mechanism we have within our selves is call Protective. Protective is more than just a defense mechanism for it has a caring nature. Like, you might say, a knight it shields and protects you. This is why it is such an aid in help eliminating anxiety and panic. By learning to protect self, your being you will find fewer problems in life. For example, smoking can cause anxiety and panic because it will affect your health. You are not protecting your health. Drinking excessively can be harmful to your health, but if you reduce your intake you are basically protecting self from harm.

Most times people deal with dread, fear, worry, anxiety, stress, and the like failing to see the reality and imagined triggers that stimulate the emotions. Most times the person will run to escape the feelings, rather than learning to deal with them as they come along.

Panic is real when you come face to face with a serial killer, however panic is not real when a bill comes along and you have less than a week to pay the darn thing. Most times, if you dig up resources, ask questions and the like you will find a solution to your problem. Likewise, fear is real when you come face to face with a rapist or murderer

Health Guru : Eating For Hemorrhoids
Webmaster | 8. February 2008 @ 16:02

If you have hemorrhoids, you probably want to get rid of them. There are several options open to you. Any of these options can be used to treat the bleeding and the pain you may be experiencing. One of the more effective options in the treatment of hemorrhoids is the use of diet. By finding the right foods and balancing your diet you can help your digestive system to get back on track and begin to function normally.

Hemorrhoids are caused by extra pressure and strain on the blood vessels near the area of the anus and rectum. They can be either internal or external both of which can cause bleeding. Hemorrhoids can also cause pain, especially if they are severe. The pressure that causes hemorrhoids can come from constipation, pregnancy, and other sources.

If you have or have ever had hemorrhoids, it is a good idea to change your diet in order to relieve the pressure on the blood vessels in the area of your rectum. This is especially important if your hemorrhoids are caused by constipation. Even if hemorrhoids are removed with surgery, they can come back if you do not maintain a proper diet. If you experience chronic constipation the pressure will soon return and affect other blood vessels around your rectum.

The best way to keep pressure off of the rectal area is by eating more fiber-rich foods. The more fiber in your system, the better your digestion. There are several types of food that are high in fiber. You can help resolve your problems with hemorrhoids by including these foods in your daily diet. Even if you have hemorrhoid surgery, you will need to maintain a healthy high-fiber diet in order to prevent a reoccurrence of hemorrhoids.

One of the readily available sources of fiber is from whole grains. This is especially so if you eat a lot of breads and cereals. Bran is also a good source of fiber. These sources of fiber help your body to continually process food through the digestive system. If you do not like to eat wheat products, you can try adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Foods like asparagus, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, peas, and parsnips are excellent sources of fiber. Adding these to your diet can help you to fight hemorrhoids naturally.

Another important factor to consider in the fight against hemorrhoids is how much fluid you are consuming. Water should be an important part of your daily diet you should be consuming at least six to eight glasses a day. You can also drink fruit juices and other healthy beverages to keep yourself well hydrated. Doing so allows your digestive tract to keep moving. If you drink caffeine, such as from coffee or tea, it is important to drink extra water. Caffeine dehydrates your body and robs it of nutrients.

If you are battling hemorrhoids, or are trying to keep them from coming back, then keeping your diet healthy can help. By eating plenty of fiber and drinking plenty of fluids you can keep from having problems with hemorrhoids.

Health Guru : What is Naturopathy?
Webmaster | 6. February 2008 @ 16:02

Although the term 'traditional naturopathy' originated in the late 19th Century, the art can be traced back through Germany into Greece, to Hippocrates himself, and even beyond. There have always been people who understood that healing will occur naturally in the human body, if it is given what it truly needs, that is proper diet, pure water, fresh air, sunlight, exercise, and rest. For these people, the emphasis has not been on finding a disease and killing it, but rather on helping the body establish its own state of good health. Today, these people are known as traditional naturopaths or naturopathic consultants.

While traditional naturopaths recognize that allopathic health care is, at times, necessary, they understand that many accepted allopathic treatments may be harmful or ineffective in promoting health. Allopathic philosophy holds that disease is caused by external agents. According to this philosophy, a cure will result when offending agents are eliminated. In addition, the allopathic approach also tends to look at the symptom and the disease as one and the same, so that when the symptom has been eliminated, it is presumed that the disease is cured. The naturopath, however, sees a symptom as nothing more than a signal that something is wrong. According to naturopathic belief, when a symptom alone is eliminated, it is most likely being suppressed. Unless the original cause has also been eliminated, the symptom may return later in a chronic form.

Naturopaths Do

The origin of 'education' was celebrated in the Latin phrase docendo discimus: "by teaching we learn."

In teaching clients how to live a healthy, holistic lifestyle, traditional naturopaths follow these principles:

Do no harm.

Primum non nocere is part of the Hippocratic oath. naturopaths do not use harmful, artificial substances such as drugs and pharmaceuticals; nor do they use invasive and dangerous procedures, such as surgery.

Recognize the healing power of nature.

Naturopaths understand the body's innate capacity for self-healing. They educate clients in creating external and internal environments conducive to healing.

Health Guru : We Live in a Toxic World
Webmaster | 5. February 2008 @ 16:02

It doesn't take brain surgery to know that we are exposed to toxic chemicals. The list is extensive:

- Herbicides
- Pesticides
- 3000 chemicals are used in food
- Hormones and Antibiotics in tap water
- Heavy metals in fertilizers
- Rocket fuel in our lettuce
- Teflon in microwave popcorn
- Genetically Engineered grains
- Soy products causing birth defects, and cancer
- MSG in 95 % of prepared foods
- Aspartame Equal causes weight gain

The list goes on and on

What can we do to improve our lives?

Simple - Start at the grass roots level.

Unhealthy Soil = Unhealthy Plants and Animals = Unhealthy People

There are no trace minerals in our soils. This translates to our food, our gardens, lawns, pasture for our animals (cows that we eat or horses that we love).

Linus Pauling stated that almost every disease is related to the lack of trace minerals in our food - cancer, high blood pressure, degenerative diseases.

Replacing trace minerals is cheap and easy to do. Rent a spray rig,

purchase molasses from your feed store, and spray you lawn, garden, or pastures.

Toxic Chemicals in Foods

What the Food Industry Doesn't Want You to Know!

It is absolutely overwhelming to write about this topic because there are so many chemicals that are absorbed into our bodies. In fact, the space constraints make it impossible to discuss everything in this article.

I have just finished my diet book about 'Obesity and What Causes It' but it could have been just as easily called Disease and What Causes It. Obesity and Disease are caused by one and the same - CHEMICALS.

The food industry has bragged they could imitate any food flavor and they have. MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate) is the most common chemical used in foods today and it can trick you tongue into believing anything bland is a gourmet meal. A perfect example is some of the 'healthy meals' in the grocery store freezer sections. Without MSG, you would think you were eating grass. In fact most of the things in these meals are plant derived and seasoned with multiple chemicals.

I suggest you need to read labels, but to do so you need to learn the lingo.

* Spices - MSG does not have to be put on the label if it is less than 50% of 'Spices' And you thought MSG wasn't in your food.

* Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein - You don't know what this 'stuff' adds to your foods? HVP is made from Vegetables that are not edible. The vegetables are cooked with an acid until it is a mush. It's then neutralized with caustic soda. It is dried and mixed with MSG and placed into prepared foods.

* Soy this or Soy that - Soy is not a healthy food but by using phantom foundations to proclaim soy virtues food companies have made us believe that soy is a health food. First of all, 85% of soy beans are GMO ( Genetically Modified Organisms ) the GMO foods are NOT made for our good health or nutrition. They were made to monopolize and control food profits all over the world. They were also made so the farmer would have to use more chemicals in growing their crops. The chemicals are herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and toxic fertilizers that many times contain heavy metals like mercury, lead, aluminum, and arsenic.

This is a small list, but I think you get the idea there are some chemicals that you dont want and when you eat prepared foods, you are consuming these chemicals. Actually, there are over three thousand chemicals that are used in the food processing business to save money or maximize profits in manufacturing.

These companies are so cheap or so determined to make money at our expense, they do not even use garlic or onions. They have chemicals that imitate these two flavors.

What is the solution to chemicals in our foods? Dont buy prepared foods. Someone in the family needs to get into the kitchen and prepare meals with the love that our mothers or grandmothers used to provide. The foods shouldn't be in plastic containers, aluminum cans or steel cans sealed with lead seams.

Obesity, cancer, heart disease, birth defects - 65%of adults have a degenerative disease, childhood cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the world and many other problems are cause by chemicals in our diets. We need to minimize chemicals, learn how to detoxify, and supplement properly (until you learn to buy, or grow healthy food). There are no healthy foods in a regular type grocery store today.

About the author:Dr Bob the Health Builder

Robert D Bard, OD, FAAO

I attended West Virginia University and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctor of Optometry degree.

As a health professional I was always interested in disease prevention but found the medical model ' drug companies and doctors ' unacceptable. The medical model towards disease is that they want us ' the people ' to contract disease and they will prevent us from dieing as long as we continue to take their drugs for the rest of our lives. This is their idea of preventive medicine. The population expects prevention to prevent disease before we get sick.

I became overweight and like most people blamed it on me and my eating habits, but I knew that diets and potions on TV DO NOT WORK and therefore put off doing anything until I stumbled across a solution.

In 1999 I began itching and it got worse almost by the day. I started taking antihistamines to reduce the itching and over a 10 month time period visited 4 dermatologists. The first 3 doctors miss diagnosed my problem. The forth discovered the cause but I had to use a pesticide all over my body to correct the condition I know this seems strange but I had an infestation of Norwegian mites under my skin (I didnt even know that mites had a pedigree much less a country of origin).

When I used the pesticide to kill the mites I swelled up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. With this ordeal I gained even more weight and ended up looking like Porky the Pig. I also lost my sense of taste because of all the antihistamines.

In 2002 I did some consulting work for a supplement company and they gave me a gift book by Sherry Rogers, MD. At the same time I had a patient in my office that sensitive to all chemicals including the chemicals from a carpet that was 6 months old and from my cologne. He had to wear a mask filled with carbon just to get through a basic eye examination. After quizzing him about his condition I discovered that over 6 million people in the US can't function normally because of toxic chemicals - that means holding down jobs and leading a normal life.

Because of this patient I began to investigate toxic chemicals and how they affect people, particularly my health, my taste, and weight problems. With this information I have lost 70 pounds, gone from a jean size of 50 to 40. I feel better, look better, and my big belly that used to catch food is almost gone. (I no longer catch food on my stomach)

I have discovered that the public is one big toxic chemical experiment by industrial food manufactures, chemical companies that control farm chemicals with Genetically Engineered crops, drug companies and companies that want to dump their waste products without protecting the public.

There are some really good people that write books and educate people about health issues, economic issues, environmental issues, food problems but all these people specialize in certain areas. My job as I see it is to be a reporter and filter the important information to my subscribers.

I have also been a farmer for years and one of my discoveries is that our diseased health economy starts with toxic chemicals and crop land.

Unhealthy Soil = Unhealthy Plants and Animals = Unhealthy People

I also think it is terrible that when people retire at the age of 65 that 97% are in poverty in this nation. I believe that I can help people make extra money in retirement through my experience on eBay and other sources of information. I have a free newsletter that discusses health issues and money issues to help people.

Health Guru : Vitamins Is There Such Thing as Too Much?
Webmaster | 4. February 2008 @ 16:02

You probably hear lots of information about the need to get sufficient amounts of vitamins in your daily diet, and to take a vitamin supplement if you aren't getting those necessary vitamins. If vitamins are good for you, it stands to reason that more is better, right? Actually, overdoing it with vitamins can cause some problems as well. Take a look at some of the more common vitamins and what you can face by getting too much of a good thing.

Vitamin D - Vitamin D is readily available in milk and dairy products, but only those that have been Vitamin D fortified. There are some other sources of this vitamin, with tuna, salmon, sardines and mackerel among those with the higher contents. You also get Vitamin D from sunshine. A lack of Vitamin D causes bone problems, including rickets.

An overdose of Vitamin D will likely first let itself be known in the form of nausea. In extreme cases, loss of appetite, weakness and abnormal heart rhythm can occur.

Despite what some people may think, it's unlikely that you can get an overdose of Vitamin D from the sun. Sunburn will show itself long before your body absorbs enough Vitamin D from the sunshine. Too much calcium in the diet can also cause problems with major organs, including the heart and kidneys.

Vitamin A - Vitamin A is often associated with the 'orange' fruits and vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges and carrots. There are other sources as well, mainly in fruits and vegetables. Vitamin A is good for vision, healthy skin and hair.

An overdose of Vitamin A can result is some serious health risks and will first be seen as headaches, vomiting, dizziness and a lack of coordination in the muscles. Most commonly, Vitamin A toxicity arises from consuming a huge amount of Vitamin A over a short period of time, usually in the form of vitamins as supplements. Damage to the central nervous system or liver, and birth defects are among the possible long-term effects of overdoses of Vitamin A.

Vitamin B - There are several vitamins that make up the group known as the B-Complex vitamins. B6 and B12 are among the more common of that group. Both are touted in connection with healthy hearts and maintaining a youthful appearance, but its important to note that there are some important differences in the toxicity potential for vitamins in this group. Notably, there have been few cases of B12 overdoses, especially cases that caused adverse symptoms.

By contrast, B6 typically can result in nerve damage. As a rule, the effects are reversed when the levels of B6 are brought back under control.

As a rule - As a rule, it's difficult to consume sufficient amounts of vitamins to cause severe toxicity. Nausea will typically be your first clue to a problem. Talk to your doctor or health care professional before starting any vitamin regimen or making major changes to your diet.

Health Guru : Wine Utensils
Webmaster | 1. February 2008 @ 16:02

Ideal wine making utensils to use for boiling ingredients & juices are those consisting of good quality enamel. If possible, try to purchase wine utensils sold under proprietary names, as they are often most reliable. They cannot be chipped.

Cheap enamel utensils often contain lead in the glaze and this might be boiled into the brew. If this happened, the wine would then be dangerous.

If copper or aluminum is used, there could be a slight risk of small particles of the metal being boiled into the brew. This could poison the yeast, which would prevent fermentation.

For fermentation purposes and for soaking fruits and flowers, try using a china vessel or one made of polythene. China vessels should not be too wide at the rim as this exposes too large a surface to the air. A polythene bucket is ideal - but do make sure it is of polythene, as some plastics are not suitable. And choose a pale color or a white one. Where large batches of wine are made, a polythene dustbin makes an excellent fermentation vessel, as does a strong polythene bag, lining a worn-out barrel or similar container.

One advantage of Polythene has is the fact that it is nearly unbreakable. A polythene bucket may be used for all wine-making purposes except boiling the ingredients.

Do not use enamel vessels for fermentation and do not use a galvanized vessel for any part of the wine-making process.
